Premier League: Cech returns to Chelsea

Petr Cech returns to his former club FC Chelsea in a new role. As the club announced on Friday, the former goalkeeper will work as technical advisor to the Blues in the future.

The Czech is to work closely with club manager Marina Granowskaja on strategy and performance and act as an important link between the professional team and the junior teams.

“It’s a great privilege to return to Chelsea FC and help create the best possible environment for excellence to continue the club’s success of the past 15 years,” said the 37-year-old, who retired in May.

For quite some time there have been rumours about a return of Cech to his old club. Among other things, the British TV channel Sky Sports News had linked him to the vacant position of sports director.

Cech played his last career game with FC Arsenal against his former and future employer Chelsea and lost in the final of the Europa League at the end of May in Baku with 1:4.

Before joining FC Arsenal, he wore the Blues jersey for eleven years in a total of 494 games. With the West Londoners, the keeper won the English championship and the FA Cup four times each. He also crowned himself Champion League winner in 2012 at the “Final dahoam” in the Allianz Arena in Munich against the German record champion Bayern Munich.
