The former German national player Mesut Özil was the victim of an attempted robbery in London on Thursday afternoon. Armed with knives, scooter drivers attacked Özil, who at that time was driving his Mercedes G-Class in the north of the English capital. He was accompanied by his arsenal player Sead Kolasinac.
Özil escaped from the car into the Turkish restaurant Likya and was pursued at first. However, according to the Daily Mail, the staff distributed the attackers. Meanwhile Kolasinac resisted the vehicle and fled at least one other perpetrator. Videos of the incident are already circulating on the net.
FC Arsenal also confirmed the incident and, in response to questions from Goal and SOCCERSCORE, said: “We’re in touch with both players, they’re fine.” Özil and Kolasinac survived the incident without any injuries.
After the perpetrators had fled, the alarmed police came. Özil and Kolasinac made their statement and were allowed to leave. In London, armed robberies in road traffic are currently not uncommon. Comedian Michael McIntyre was recently robbed of an expensive wristwatch in a similar situation.
