Premier League: Arsenal signed David Luiz of city rival Chelsea

Former Brazilian international David Luiz moves from Europa League winners FC Chelsea to city rivals FC Arsenal. That’s what the Gunners announced Thursday night. “David has a lot of experience and I look forward to working with him again,” said Arsenal coach Unai Emery, who already knows Luiz very well from his time with the French league primus Paris St. Germain.

According to the media, the 32-year-old defender, who last boycotted blues training, has a two-year contract with the North Londoners. The redemption is to amount to eight million pounds (around 8.7 million euros).

Arsenal have thus found a replacement for captain Laurent Koscielny, who refused to travel to the USA in July to test the English club’s long-standing history and on Tuesday switched to the French first division club Girondins Bordeaux.

Luiz had only extended his expiring contract at Stamford Bridge by two years in May, less than 24 hours after the European Cup thriller against Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt.

Arsenal had previously signed left-back Kieran Tierney of Scottish champions Celtic Glasgow and provided him with a five-year contract. Late Thursday evening, the Gunners announced that striker Alex Iwobi was switching to league rivals FC Everton. The 23-year-old nephew of Nigeria’s legend Jay-Jay Okocha signed a five-year contract with the Toffees.
