U21 rides without Teuchert and Serra to the European Championships

Without goal scorer Cedric Teuchert from Schalke 04, the German U21 national team will travel to Italy and San Marino for the European Championship (16 to 30 June). Janni Serra, Jordan Torunarigha and Lukas Klünter were also cancelled.

Kuntz had to remove four players from his provisional 27-member squad by Thursday evening. Unexpectedly, Serra from Holstein Kiel will be eliminated, as the 21-year-old was the only real striker in the line-up. The Hertha defenders Torunarigha and Klünter were also informed of their departure on Friday morning.

Teuchert had scored seven goals in the European Championship qualification and was thus the most successful DFB player. The 22-year-old scored a total of eight goals in eight matches for the U21. In the second half of the season, however, Teuchert had not played a role for Schalke.

The beleaguered Nadiem Amiri (1899 Hoffenheim) and Arne Maier (Hertha BSC), on the other hand, are also present. Klünter had won the title in 2017 with the U21, but without having been used. The European Champion team of Poland now consists of four players: Levin Öztunali (FSV Mainz 05), Mahmoud Dahoud (Borussia Dortmund), Waldemar Anton (Hannover 96) and Amiri.
