Ten months after Mesut Özil’s resignation from the DFB team, Joachim Löw still has no contact with his former protégé. The national coach can also observe the final of the Europa League neutrally.
“I have nothing to do with Mesut Özil,” Löw is quoted in the Sport Bild. In July 2018, Özil announced his resignation from the national team without informing his coach of his intentions. The ratio is correspondingly distanced.
Löw is still waiting for a message from the player: “It was natural for him to call me personally. The consultant called me and said that the Mesut called me a day later to explain all this to me in detail. That has not happened to this day.”
The national coach has now come to terms with this: “Sometimes you have to accept personal disappointments as a coach somehow”.
Before the final of the Europa League between FC Chelsea and FC Arsenal, Löw is completely neutral: “We have players on both sides who were with us.” In addition to Özil, Antonio Rüdiger (FC Chelsea), Bernd Leno and Shkodran Mustafi (both FC Arsenal) also play for the participating clubs.
