DFB coach Stefan Kuntz recommended himself for the Fair Play Prize before the German opening match at the U21 European Championships. After a mistake by UEFA, the coach apparently had access to a video of Denmark’s top-secret final training, but refrained from studying the pictures. That’s what the Bild newspaper reports.
Accordingly, the European Football Union accidentally published the video on a website accessible to all other nations and their scouts. The Danes had trained on Sunday at 11.00 o’clock in the stadium in Udine. The secret starting eleven could also have been seen in the 15 minutes of public training.
According to the picture, Kuntz forbid anyone in his team to download the video. The newspaper quoted one member of the German functional team as saying: “That was immediately clear to him – he only wants to fight with fair means. Kuntz even informed UEFA of their mistake and called Danish coach Niels Frederiksen in person.”
Germany will face Denmark in their first group match on Monday evening (21.00 in the LIVETICKER) in Udine.
