DFB coach Stefan Kuntz has declared Serbia the favourite in the German group shortly before the start of the U21 European Championships. “You can’t say we’re the only top favorite in this tournament. Even in our group, I personally see Serbia ahead of us,” says the 56 year old Sky and BR.
The Serbs will play with Luka Jovic, among others, who switched from Eintracht Frankfurt to Real Madrid at the beginning of June.
Kuntz bases his assessment on the experience of the Serbian teams. “We’ve made a comparison about the first division games. Denmark and Austria are easily behind us with about 100 games. Serbia is ahead of us. If you add the senior national team to that, the Serbian players are clearly in the lead, I think with 53 matches compared to nine with us,” he said.
Serbia will be the second opponent of defending champion Germany on Thursday, the first match will be on Monday (21 o’clock in the LIVETICKER) in Udine against Denmark. Only the group winner and the best group runner-up reach the semi-finals, which is equivalent to qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
