Before the start of the European Championships: Coach Esume trains U21

American football coach Patrick Esume led a training session for the DFB U21 Juniors. During the training camp in Natz, Austria, before the U21 European Championships in Italy (16 to 30 June), Esume was to surprise the team and pass on his understanding of team spirit.

Esume already held a motivational coaching session in the team hotel on Wednesday. A small football training session followed on Thursday. “We want to get some messages across. Patrick is best able to convey this in this context because they come from football,” U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz told ran.de.

“Coach Esume’s presentation was world class and really motivated us,” said Suat Serdar from Schalk. “The training session was also a cool change and good for our team spirit.”

It was one of the team’s last training sessions before the announcement of the final European squad, which must be submitted to UEFA by 23.59 on Thursday.

Because some of the players were still a bit weak, Kuntz and his coaching team didn’t want to decide until after the training session on Thursday evening who would be allowed to go to Italy. The DFB will announce on Friday morning which four players will be removed from the squad.
