Since 1998, the Europa League winner has been determined in a final match. Previously, when the competition was called the UEFA Cup, there was a first leg and a second leg between the two finalists.

This year the final will take place on Wednesday 29 May at 9 pm. It will therefore only be played a few days before the Champions League final on 1 June. The venue will then be the Baku National Stadium in Azerbaijan’s capital.

Chelsea FC, who officially have home rights, prevailed against Eintracht Frankfurt in the penalty shoot-out in the preliminary round. The Gunners have meanwhile defeated FC Valencia, making it their second all-English final in history.

This will be transmitted by the DAZN streaming service, which has shown all games of the current EL season. The presenter Tobi Wahnschaffe goes on air at 8.30 p.m., half an hour before the kickoff. The game is then commented by Uli Hebel, Ralph Gunesch and Jonas Hummels are available as experts.

In addition to DAZN, RTL Nitro will also be showing the encounter live.

UEFA’s choice of Baku as the venue was met with much criticism. This has now become even bigger because Henrikh Mkhitaryan of FC Arsenal has decided to give up the final for political reasons.

There is a conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, so the Armenian national player Mkhitaryan is concerned about his safety.
