Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has been self-critical following a 4-2 defeat at Benfica Lisbon. Despite the four goals scored in the first leg of the quarter-finals, he and Sport Director Fredi Bobic still see every chance of reaching the semi-finals.
SOCCERSCORE has collected the votes and reactions for the first leg of the quarter-finals between Benfica Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Adi Hütter (coach Eintracht Frankfurt): “Of course the result hurts a bit, but it keeps all chances open for the second leg to give Lisbon a hot dance. The red card played Benfica into the cards, before I didn’t see much of them. I’m proud of the way the team played.”
Kevin Trapp (goalkeeper Eintracht Frankfurt) …
… about the game: “I don’t think the result reflects the game. We played a good game, but we scored too many goals. We must not forget that we were one man less. Four goals against may be one or two too many today. Nevertheless, we remain positive: Benfica must first come to Frankfurt. Today we may be disappointed, next week we must show another face.”
… about the starting situation for the second leg: “It was 1:4 in the meantime, so it can get disgusting. Nevertheless, we continued to play well, we continued to play forward. We hope that the 2-4 win will be enough for the second leg.”
… about the 1:3: “We knew that the standards of Benfica are very dangerous. I take the step out, then go back, he’s all alone. Actually, everyone should have their husband. It’s bad luck that the ball is passed on like this. The goal is definitely avoidable, we have to check it off quickly and win in Augsburg on Sunday.”
… about the 1:4: “The shot goes through my legs. It’s always a little different on the pitch than on the outside. As a goalie, you always look like shit. Today I felt every ball was in it. The penalty was mine. At the second goal I slip away a bit, I don’t look good either. It’s extremely unfortunate for a goalkeeper because I have a claim to help the team in those moments. But the second leg hasn’t been played yet.
… about Pacienca’s important 2:4: “You can see it every day in training. Goncalo was long gone, but he is extremely fit, physically strong and robust. Today he put in a difficult ball.”
Fredi Bobic (Chairman Sport Eintracht Frankfurt): “I am very, very confident for the second leg.”
