Özil provokes Valencia fans with gesture

Mesut Özil of FC Arsenal provoked the fans of FC Valencia with a gesture during the Europa League semi-final return leg. When he replaced him, he put his index finger on his lips.

After 62 minutes, coach Unai Emery had replaced the former international. At that point Valencia were still leading 2-1, with the Spanish fans having minimal hopes of their side’s progress.

When Özil, as is usual in such situations, slowly left the court, this led to a whistle concert. The 30-year-old gestured that the fans in the Mestalla should keep quiet.

After the midfielder’s substitution, Arsenal turned the game on its head and scored three more goals, which ultimately meant a clear 4-2 win. The Gunners had already won 3-0 in the first leg.
