Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola was one of the first to congratulate Jürgen Klopp on Saturday evening. As the Liverpool coach revealed, Guardiola called him shortly after winning the Champions League final against Tottenham (2-0).
“I just got off the phone with Pep Guardiola. We promised to kick each other’s ass again next season. We will try everything again and see if we can win something again,” Klopp said at the press conference.
Klopps Reds and Guardiolas Cityzens had fought a close battle for the championship title in the Premier League. In the end, ManCity was one point ahead of Liverpool with 98 points.
The Reds now compensated for this with a triumph in the royal class. Goals from Mohamed Salah (penalty kick, 2nd minute) and Divock Origi (87th) made for a 2-0 win over Spurs at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.
