PSV Eindhoven defeated FC Basel 3:2 (1:1) in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Football Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Sam Lammers and Donyell Malen scored the decisive goals for the Dutch runners-up’s home win in the 90th and 93rd minute. Basel were on course for an away win after a goal from Alderete Fernandez in the 79th minute until the finish.
The Swiss, coached by former ÖFB team boss Marcel Koller, had managed to equalise in the injury time of the first half by Albian Ajeti, after Bruma (14.) had brought Eindhoven into the lead. The return match in St. Jakob-Park will take place next Tuesday.
The winner of the duel will face the LASK in the third qualifying round. The loser will switch to the Europa League and may have to deal with Sturm Graz in the third qualifying round. The Styrians would have to make it to the second round with the Norwegian Club Haugesund.
