Champions League: Before CL final: "Fear" of hooligans in Madrid

Before the Champions League final between FC Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur (9 p.m. live on DAZN), fears of violent English football fans are growing in the final city of Madrid.

According to the Spanish daily Marca, numerous pub owners around the two fan zones at the Plaza de Colon and the Avenida Felipe II are in “fear” and want to close their premises around the final from Friday to Sunday.

The innkeepers therefore fear that in connection with increased alcohol consumption around the fan zones there will be violence and riots of the English battle travellers and that the security could not be guaranteed by the police.

For the English duel at Wanda Metropolitano, the home of Atletico Madrid, 60,000 to 70,000 British fans are expected, of whom 20,000 to 30,000 will have to travel without a ticket and will have to switch to broadcasts in pubs. The Spanish authorities have not yet commented on plans for a possible reinforcement of security measures.

As early as in the group stage of the premier class, riots before the Real Madrid and AS Rome duel led to numerous devastations in the Spanish capital. Also in the Basketball-EuroLeague the bar owners had problems with violent guest fans around the home games of Real Madrid.
