The BVB has an oversupply of central defenders, but could now sell Dan-Axel Zagadou. FC Arsenal is supposed to be interested. Meanwhile Ömer Toprak would like to stay with the black-yellow ones.
Here are all the news and rumours about Borussia Dortmund.
At the latest since Mats Hummels was hired, the BVB probably has at least one central defender too many in its squad. Sports director Michael Zorc, who spoke of an “oversupply” to the Ruhr Nachrichten, is also aware of this.
One man who could now leave the club is Dan-Axel Zagadou. According to France Football, the 20-year-old Frenchman has attracted the interest of FC Arsenal.
Zagadou is still under contract in Dortmund until 2022 and played in 17 Bundesliga matches under Lucien Favre. At the end of the season, however, he dropped out for several weeks due to knee problems.
Ömer Toprak is also frequently traded as a possible farewell candidate. The defender, who moved from Bayer Leverkusen to the Ruhrpott in 2017, was seldom used in the past season (only nine Bundesliga appearances) and is therefore considered to be replaceable. According to Sport Bild, Besiktas is a potential buyer.
Toprak himself, however, does not want to know about a farewell. In the kicker he announced to want to fight for his “chance”. He had “often enough proved” that he had already succeeded in doing so in the past.
In the U19 Bundesliga final against VfB Stuttgart (5:3) Paul-Philipp Besong was brilliant with a double pack for the Borussians, now the paths could suddenly separate.
As the Ruhr Nachrichten reports, the striker has decided against BVB’s U23 selection because “there is no sporting esteem”, as its consultant Ingo Preuß is quoted as saying.
The week before, Preuß spoke of “very, very good” negotiations. Dortmund was therefore optimistic that it would be able to hold the 18-year-old.
Where Besong is drawn to is still open. However, the hottest candidate according to picture information is the 1st FC Nürnberg.
