VfB Stuttgart has relegated to the 2nd league. In the second leg of the relegation, Union Berlin drew 0-0 to advance to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

Here are the votes after the decision in the relegation of Eurosport as well as from the Mixed Zone:

Nico Willig (coach VfB Stuttgart) about …

… the second leg: “This is a horror season. That’s the low point. We’ve only lost one game in the last five weeks, but today it was one draw too many.”

… the offside goal: “I haven’t seen the scene and will never watch it in my life.”

Thomas Hitzlsperger (Sports Director VfB Stuttgart) about …

“We came here to win. We fought, but our opponent didn’t let us buy his cutting edge. We weren’t able to find football solutions, the games weren’t made for that. Union has risen deservedly. We’ve done a lot wrong, Nico Willig, I’d like to gut him. We’ve made too many mistakes. No one spoke in the cabin, there’s nothing to say.”

… the team: “Thursday and today the mentality wasn’t a problem, the players tried. But Union has played football like this for much longer and was better prepared than we were. I wouldn’t ask the question of mentality today. The quality of the team should have been enough to stay in the Bundesliga.”

… possible changes: “We have to recognize that we have done a lot wrong. Of course, there will be many changes. It’s brutally bitter. I have to build people in my role. It’s the wrong time to name changes right now.”

Urs Fischer (Trainer Union Berlin): “Fantastic. I really like the club, the great audience, every single employee.”

Dirk Zingler (President Union Berlin): “It’s surreal, I can’t believe it. I’ve been going to this club for 20 years, I’ve just been waiting for this one game.”

Robert Zulj (Union Berlin) on…

… the emotions after the game: “I still have goose bumps. I can’t believe what’s going on out there. When you see the people outside, the fans thanked us and we thanked them. When you see that … I could start crying.”

… the early counter goal that was taken away: “When I took my free kick, I thought to myself: Oh shit, such a cheap goal. Thank God we had that little bit of luck. We knew we’d need this. We’ve invested so much this season.”

… the coming season: “The Bundesliga can look forward to a team that will give everything from the first to the last minute next year. The Bundesliga can look forward to the team, the fans and the stadium. I think Stuttgart was surprised today how things are going here.”
