Tönnies: “Angry and ashamed” about S04

FC Schalke 04 will agree with Fortuna Düsseldorf on a transfer from Benito Raman. At least that’s what Friedhelm Funkel expects. For Clemens Tönnies, the election campaign is entering its final phase. The U19 of Königsblau upgrades. Here’s all the news and rumors about S04.

FC Schalke 04 and Fortuna Düsseldorf will probably reach an agreement in the negotiations concerning Benito Raman. At least Fortuna trainer Friedhelm Funkel expects this. “I think they’ll come to an agreement,” he told the Express.

However, this does not seem to be due to an improved Schalker offer. According to the picture, S04 has not expanded the offer of seven million euros plus another three million euros of possible bonus payments. Rather, the willingness to discuss the transfer of Bernard Tekpetey, which was negotiated in parallel, is said to have increased.

Düsseldorf would therefore get a two-year loan with a purchase option instead of the previous two-year loan. Tekpetey, most recently loaned to SC Paderborn, would then move on to Düsseldorf, while Raman could come to Gelsenkirchen for a maximum of ten million euros.

FC Schalke 04 will fill two new seats on the supervisory board on 30 June 2019. Clemens Tönnies, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, is also standing for election. On Tuesday he had to face his rivals Peter Lange, Ingolf Müller and Matthias Rüter in a discussion round.

The round was moderated by Matthias Killing and was not open to the public. Fans could submit their questions in writing beforehand. Tönnies was self-critical about it. Asked about the case of Christian Heidel, he said, “I should have intervened sooner.” He was “angry and ashamed” for the performances of the team.

Nevertheless, he promised that new coach David Wagner would bring along a “different football”. In addition, Tönnies agreed with his three competitors regarding the legal form of FC Schalke 04. A change in the status of a registered association is still not under discussion in Gelsenkirchen.

While FC Schalke 04 has been rather cautious on the professional transfer market so far, its own substructure has been massively strengthened in recent weeks: At the request of coach Norbert Elgert, several new players came on board.

The Ruhrnachrichten has summarized the transfers of the miners’ forge: The 18-year-old midfielder Henri Matter was hired by 1 FC Cologne. From Hamburger SV, the Schalkers got left-back Brooklyn Ezeh, who already has a pronounced physique at the age of 17. Also Topaz Kronmüller (Hoffenheim) and Ricardo Michael (Dynamo Dresden) came.

Meanwhile, local rival Borussia Dortmund hired Stanislav Fehler. However, the 16-year-old, like the players mentioned at the beginning, was under the radar of the public. Only Matthew Hoppe attracted a lot of attention. The 18-year-old striker was taken from the US Academy of FC Barcelona. His team mate Andy Villar is supposed to follow him now.
