The Hummels rumour from three perspectives: there would be a clear winner

Bundesliga: The Hummels rumour from three perspectives: there would be a clear winner

According to a report by Bild und SportBild, Borussia Dortmund is considering a recall by Mats Hummels. For which of the three parties would a change make sense? And who should ponder intensely? An analysis from three perspectives.

Until the summer of 2018, FC Bayern had the world champions and defenders Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng at their disposal and was very proud of them. And then some strange things happened within a very short time: The two failed miserably in defending their World Cup title with the DFB eleven; the two were first overtaken in the club and national team by the young Niklas Süle – and then even kicked out of the national team altogether.

Meanwhile, FC Bayern signed a new world champions defender duo, the French Benjamin Pavard (for 35 million euros from VfB Stuttgart) and Lucas Hernandez (for 80 million euros from Atletico Madrid). Both are 23 years old and thus seven years younger than Hummels and Boateng. And there is still the 23-year-old Süle.

One thing has been clear for some time now: FC Bayern has one top-class central defender too many. On the one hand personnel, on the other hand financial. One of the two, Boateng or Hummels, is to leave to finance urgently needed new offensive players with the saved salary and the achieved transfer.

Because Hummels convinced in the second half of the season at Süle’s side and Boateng took part in more BOA parties (1) than at official Bayern title parties (0), it was understandable that the former was regarded as the remaining candidate and the latter as the sales candidate. “I would recommend him as a friend to leave the club,” President Uli Hoeneß Boateng recommended as usual amicably. He replied boldly, “Situations change quickly.” Did Boateng know more back then? Should Hummels leave, Boateng’s chances of staying should rise abruptly.

According to the report by Bild und SportBild, Bavaria coach Niko Kovac is said to have agreed directly to a possible sale of Hummel’s car at the request of the bosses. The responsible persons of FC Bayern would apparently have no problem with his departure, which seems quite curious.

With the reported transfer fee of 15 to 20 million euros, they would collect only half of the amount paid three years ago. In addition, they would lose a regular defender from the previous second half and at the same time strengthen their worst title rivals. And who knows how quickly the two new Frenchmen will arrive? And when does Boateng feel like it again? They know what’s wrong with Hummels.

From FC Bayern’s point of view, selling Boateng abroad would make more sense than Hummel’s move to Dortmund.
