Bundesliga: Storm icon Claudio Pizarro reaffirms career end 2020

Werder’s storm icon Claudio Pizarro will end his career after the next season. This was confirmed by the 40-year-old on Friday. “This is the last year, for sure. I’ve talked to everyone. I feel all right, but that’s enough now,” said Pizarro.

The Peruvian, who also played for Bayern Munich and FC Cologne in his Bundesliga career, still has ambitious goals with Werder. “In my last season with Werder, I want to reach Europe. Then I would be very happy,” said Pizarro, who is one of the most successful attackers in the history of the league.

With 197 goals he is ranked sixth in the eternal ranking, in Robert Lewandowski (202) of FC Bayern only an active professional is in front of him. Gerd Müller remains out of reach with 365 Bundesliga goals. Pizarro leads the league’s oldest scorers. On the 34th matchday of last season, he improved his own record with a 2-1 winning goal against RB Leipzig at the age of 40 and 227 days.
