Mike Büskens thanked the fans of Schalke 04 with emotional words. A well-known name is again one of the favourites in the search for a sports director among the royal blues, according to reports. All news and rumours about S04 can be found here.
Mike Büskens expressed his emotional thanks to the fans of FC Schalke 04 for their support over the past few weeks: “In the rarest of cases you are said goodbye as a coaching team with chants, and these moments really got under my skin. Huub, Asa and I really appreciate these emotional moments,” the Eurofighter posted on Instagram.
After the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco, Büskens worked together with Gerald Asamoah under head coach Huub Stevens. While Stevens is retiring and Asamoah will be working for the U23, the future of Büskens is still open. Büskens has a particularly positive memory of his collaboration with Stevens: “I am grateful that I was able to experience the growler of Kerkrade like this. He always wore his hat, but he also gave us a lot of freedom in our daily work.”
Büskens continues: “Thanks to the decision makers for the trust placed in us, to all employees of the hottest club in the world and to the best fans in the world. You just have to be the best, otherwise you can’t stand such a difficult season.”
Starting next summer, David Wagner will take over the coaching position at Schalke and install Christoph Bühler, his assistant of many years.
After Schalke 04 has found a new coach in David Wagner and a new Technical Director in Michael Reschke, the position of Sports Director is still to be filled. According to information from the West, the former national defender should be at the top of the Schalke list.
The reason: Markus Krösche from SC Paderborn, who is a top candidate, is about to join RB Leipzig. Schalke boss Clemens Tönnies tended to exclude a commitment from Horst Heldt: “Heldt has been played so intensively in the media because I said that I was friends with him. But he’s not a candidate for sports director. We have him on the piece of paper, but he is not the favourite name,” Tönnies said last Sunday at Wontorra – the o2 football talk.
The Metzelder rumours, which have been circulating for months, have recently been protested by the fans in the Nordkurve because of its past with the rival BVB. “I believe that Christoph Metzelder would fit in very well with us,” said Tönnies and added: “But Jochen Schneider sees things differently because of the other obligations like his own company or the TV job with Sky. A decision is to be expected by 30 June, when the general meeting of S04 will take place.
In the squad of FC Schalke 04 there are some players whose future in royal blue dress is anything but certain. The West has dealt with the change candidates and classified their chances according to their whereabouts. While Sascha Riether (end of career) and Jeffrey Bruma (end of borrowing) will no longer be on the field for S04, other desires have aroused.
Alexander Nübel will continue to be associated with FC Bayern and will only be able to replace the Schalkern up to the transfer window in winter. The future of Ralf Fährmann will depend on this. Weston McKennie had already aroused the interest of Liverpool FC last winter and is likely to leave the club at a bid of more than 20 million euros.
After weak performances and quarrels off the pitch, the responsible persons at Amine Harit, Nabil Bentaleb and Hamza Mendyl would probably fancy an exit in case of a suitable offer. The same applies to Yehven Konoplianka, who came from Seville in 2017 for 12.5 million euros and rarely managed to convince.
