Bundesliga: Schalke boss Tönnies shoots at fans

Schalke boss Clemens Tönnies has criticized the S04 supporters for an action after the final whistle against Düsseldorf. Schalke is apparently interested in a Turkish goalkeeper. Here you can find all news and rumours about Schalke.

At a panel discussion in Bonn, Clemens Tönnies criticised part of the Schalke supporters for the campaign after the final whistle in Düsseldorf.

“I’m annoyed that fans go on the grass and take off the captain’s armband of a deserving player. We’re crossing every line there is,” said the S04 boss. After the 0:4 home game bankruptcy against Düsseldorf, fans went on the grass and put players to the test.

Benjamin Stambouli, who served as Schalke captain that day, was removed from the bandage. Tönnies, however, had deliberately decided against publicly commenting on the incident, as he stated in Bonn.

Schalke 04 is obviously interested in the Turkish keeper Ugurcan Cakir. This was confirmed by his advisor Erdi Kirkpinar. “Every team has scouts and some have followed the games of Ugurcan. Schalke hasn’t made an official offer for him yet. I know that Lille and Schalke are watching him,” Kirkpinar told Ajansspor.

Liverpool, too, is said to have had his eye on the 23-year-old. There is probably a need for action in the summer, as Alisson backup Simon Mignolet wants to leave the English runner-up. “Liverpool’s interested in him too. We have already spoken with those responsible, but no official offer has yet been received from them,” Kirkpinar said.

On the last matchday of the 2018/19 Bundesliga season, Schalke will welcome VfB Stuttgart. Due to the five-point lead of the royal blues, the game has no sporting explosiveness.

Bibiana Steinhaus will act as an impartial. She will be assisted by assistants Alexander Sather and Thomas Stein, fourth official Robert Schröder and video assistants Timo Gerach and Robert Kempter.
