Bundesliga: Schalke and HSV: Magath sees parallels

Felix Magath compares FC Schalke 04 with Crisis Club HSV. Today, Monday, the preparation begins under coach David Wagner. The annual general meeting provided some insights. Here you can find all news and rumours about Schalke 04.

According to former coach Felix Magath, FC Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV have “certain parallels”. In kicker Magath compared the two clubs: “The many personnel changes are basically a problem for the industry, but at HSV and Schalke it’s extreme. That’s a big problem.”

For Schalke, the warning should be enough: “When HSV’s descent began with the first miss of the international business, nobody would have thought it possible to end up in the 2nd league. “No one at Schalke is thinking about it now.”

Magath is well aware of the danger of an unstoppable development: “Demands in Hamburg have continued to fall over the following years. The danger that Schalke, too, will enter this spiral exists.”

Today, Monday, FC Schalke 04 starts the preparation for the coming season. Coach David Wagner invites you from 15.30 in Gelsenkirchen to the first common unit. However, some professionals will still be missing.

Alexander Nübel, Suat Serdar and Cedric Teuchert are among others still at the German U21, which lost the European Championship final against Spain on Sunday (1:2). Salif Sane is active in the Africa Cup with Senegal, Weston McKennie plays in the Gold Cup for the USA. Hamza Mendyl and Nabil Bentaleb are excluded from training according to the latest media reports.

FC Schalke 04 held its annual general meeting on Sunday evening. Clemens Tönnies was re-elected as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. “We played a bad season, but we’re not on the brink,” he said, looking optimistically into the future.

He has “full confidence” in the new sports leadership consisting of Sports Director Jochen Schneider, Coach David Wagner, Squad Planner Michael Reschke and Licensed Player Coordinator Sascha Riether: “They will lead us out of the valley. Not tomorrow, not coming season – but soon.”

Ozan Kabak, among others, will help with this. The central defender was hired by VfB Stuttgart. The club announced that on Sunday. Kabak signed a contract until 2024: “We are very pleased that we have succeeded in attracting one of Europe’s greatest talents to Schalke 04,” said sports director Schneider.
