Franck Ribery, who will leave FC Bayern Munich at the end of the season after twelve years, has highlighted the special status of ex-FCB coach Jupp Heynckes.
“Everyone knows I’ve had a lot of good coaches. One person was very important to me: Jupp Heynckes,” Ribery said on his farewell PK on Tuesday when asked who had been the best coach of his career. On Sunday, Bavaria and the 36-year-old had officially announced that Ribery would not renew his contract, which expires at the end of June, and would leave Säbener Strasse. “Another one or two years”, Ribery said on Tuesday, but he doesn’t have a new club yet.
In addition to Heynckes, Ribery has played under many great coaches throughout his career, including Carlo Ancelotti, Louis van Gaal and Pep Guardiola.
Heynckes was the Frenchman’s coach for almost three years: from 2011 to 2013 the two worked together for the first time, and at the end of the 2012/13 season the triple of championship, cup and Champions League was celebrated.
After the early release of Carlo Ancelotti in September 2017, Heynckes became coach again, stayed until the end of the season and won the championship.
