Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus also sees coach Lucien Favre responsible for his good performances. Axel Witsel is happy to have Reus on his team. Today the BVB trains in public. Here you can find all news and rumours about Borussia Dortmund.
For the second time since 2012, Marco Reus was voted Germany’s Footballer of the Year on Sunday. Coach then as now: Lucien Favre. In an interview with the kicker, the national player emphasised the good cooperation with the Swiss player: “I feel comfortable with him, which is an important factor for me despite my age and experience”.
Under Favre, Reus always gets into a good rhythm, is hardly injured and plays continuously: “It fits between us: the atmosphere, the attitude to football in training and in the game, the communication”. But not only the coach thanked Reus: “Without the medical department, the physios and my teammates it wouldn’t have worked that way.”
Overall, he experienced the award seven years later “more intensively” and could also classify it better: “I am now 30 – and will perhaps not receive this award so often. If you as a player have maybe only three or four years to go, you celebrate each title a little more emotionally than before and enjoy the whole thing more.”
Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus also commented on his role as captain in the kicker. But he is by no means a loudspeaker: “Every captain must gather experience according to his nature and find his own way. Not everyone is like Effe, who just went crazy on the court. It depends on what types of players you have in your squad.”
The fact that Mats Hummels or Marcel Schmelzer are former captains of the squad alongside Reus is no problem for the 30-year-old: “If we all manage to work together and act together, I don’t see any problems. Then we’ll have a really good structure.”
As captain, Reus is now striving for the greatest possible goal: The German championship. “There’s nothing else we can do. If we were to say with this team that we only want to stay on top, it would be at the expense of our credibility. Of course, we have to find each other first. But becoming a master must be our goal,” he said.
Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus made a big impression on Axel Witsel in his first year together. The Belgian drew a comparison with his compatriots Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City) or Eden Hazard (Real Madrid): “He is qualitatively on the same level. To me, he’s a top player.”
Witsel recognizes Reus’ high value for Dortmund: “It’s fantastic. He’s very important to us, to the club, to the fans.”
Borussia Dortmund is training publicly in Bad Ragaz today.
