RB Leipzig: This is Werner’s booth

The new trainer Julian Nagelsmann does not want to become a great reformer at RB Leipzig, but wants to build on the existing foundation. Timo Werner, who has been associated with a farewell from Leipzig for quite some time, is supposed to be one of them.

“The RB DNA will continue to be the basis. I don’t want to replace anything, but I’m already bringing in my ideas ‘on top’,” said the 31-year-old on Monday at his presentation: “There are no huge improvements to be made here, only nuances.

With the adjustments, the former TSG coach Hoffenheim, who has a contract with the Saxons until June 30, 2023, will finally win titles. “The basic goal is to continue being so successful,” said Nagelsmann: “But it would be nice to get something tinny, something made of metal, gold or silver. I don’t just want to win games, I want to win bigger ones.”

Nagelsmann, who announced his move from Hoffenheim to Leipzig last summer and will play in the Champions League with RB in the future, can also rely on the services of national striker Timo Werner for the time being. “We are in talks, but there is no new status,” said the new Sports Director Markus Krösche: “Timo is an important player for us, whom we would also like to have in the future.

Werner is still under contract in Leipzig until 2020, but at the end of last year’s Bundesliga season there were repeated speculations about a change of 23-year-old this summer. Above all Meister Bayern Munich is regarded as an interested party.
