EX-BVB defender Patrick Owomoyela praised Mats Hummels in an interview with t-online.de. “I am firmly convinced that it is as good as it was in 2014. It is a stroke of luck for us that it was available. In Dortmund, we know what quality Mats still has,” says Owomoyela.
Jadon Sancho is also convinced that Mats Hummels will play a leading role at BVB. In an interview with the WAZ, the BVB young star stated: “He is a leader. And that’s what we need. In the past season we might have needed someone like him to admonish us to stay focused at the crucial moments.”
Sancho also gave the WAZ open insights into his difficult childhood in London’s Kensington district.
“There are so many people of my age in prison who have become criminals. Their mothers are probably sad, they cry. But I saw how happy my mother was when she saw me playing football. She told me this was the best thing that could have happened to me. Football was the way to stay on the good side,” Sancho described his way into professional football.
In an interview with the Abendzeitung, Ottmar Hitzfeld stressed the importance of the Supercup. “If Dortmund were to win, it would be a sign that the BVB can attack Bavaria this season,” said Hitzfeld.
Hitzfeld also praised the BVB transfers – especially the commitment of Mats Hummels: “Dortmund has strengthened very well. Hummels is a leader, an absolute boss who stands above everyone – on and off the pitch. It’s very good for Dortmund.”
