Obvious agreement with new coach

According to the picture, David Wagner is very likely to become coach of the Bundesliga team Schalke 04 next season. Negotiations with the 47-year-old, who last coached Huddersfield Town in the English Premier League, are therefore well advanced.

Wagner had already introduced himself to Supervisory Board Chairman Clemens Tönnies at home, and there was agreement with Sports Director Jochen Schneider on a cooperation.

David Wagner was a reservist for the legendary team of “Eurofighters” from Schalk in 1997, who won the UEFA Cup. He experienced the final return match at Inter Milan on the bench. He later became junior coach at TSG Hoffenheim before taking over the second team from Borussia Dortmund for four years. At the end of 2015 he went to England to join Huddersfield and led the club into the Premier League. He resigned in early 2019, when the club was last in the standings.

In the relegation fight of the Bundesliga after the separation from Domenico Tedesco Schalke had brought back his coach of the century Huub Stevens, who also coached Wagner in 1997. Recently, a derby victory in the BVB (4:2) was achieved, which probably means the rescue. In addition to a new trainer, the Schalkers are also looking for a sports director and a squad planner.
