Coach Julian Nagelsmann has not yet given up hope that goal scorer Timo Werner will stay with RB Leipzig. But in poker about the future of the national player, the future coach of the DFB Cup finalist also drew a line.
“The matter with Timo Werner is clearly settled. We all hope that it will be extended and that it will remain,” said Nagelsmann to Sport Bild. Don’t prolong Werner, it would be difficult for such a player to leave without a replacement.
“I’d rather he stayed. But certain conditions must be fulfilled so that he can and should stay. If these are not fulfilled, you have to see that there is a solution,” said Nagelsmann.
Werner’s contract in Leipzig expires in summer 2020. The 23-year-old is often associated with record champion Bayern Munich. Also the Leipziger responsible persons around coach and sport director Ralf Rangnick stressed often that they want to avoid a replacement-free departure of their striker star in the coming year absolutely.
Rangnick’s work on the side line admires Nagelsmann meanwhile: “Ralf has an incredible wealth of experience in defensive football, attacking the opponent and switching quickly. I am looking forward to an exchange about the counter-pressing and attacking of the opponent”, he said. His goal is to win a title with RB and to continue playing attractive football.
