Bundesliga: More respect? Metzelder does not understand trainer

Christoph Metzelder has praised Niko Kovac of FC Bayern Munich for his confident appearance under difficult conditions. The FCB coach is a good example for the Bundesliga coaches, who are currently becoming increasingly dissatisfied.

“How sovereign Niko Kovac dealt with the fact that he never let himself be provoked, demands respect from me. He has gained a lot of profile in his first year in Munich,” said Metzelder to the kicker with a view to the difficult first season of the Croatian at FC Bayern.

Kovac, among others, had not been protected in public by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of the Management Board. Many coaches lamented this trend in the past football year.

Metzelder has no sympathy for this view: “Every trainer who signs in the professional field knows what to expect and what he has to endure.” To be honest, he finds the discussion about respect for the football teacher’s job “even bigoted”. High salaries would also mean increased pressure, the former defense attorney said.

He warned that success and failure are not based “solely on the quality of your work”, but are also influenced by various other factors. Even abroad the situation would not be better: “I don’t have that impression. Like when I see the headlines on the English tabloids. Also in Spain AS and Marca want to be filled daily.”
