Mehmedi: “They won’t roll us out of the red carpet”

Of paper form, it is a clear matter, much more so because of the fact that VfL Wolfsburg competes in the DFB Cup after the exchange of home game rights in their own AOK stadium against the regional league Union Fürstenwalde. Nevertheless, offensive man Admir Mehmedi warns against the opponent.

Of course, the VfL Wolfsburg does not approach the game as if it were the cup final. Coach Oliver Glasner already announced that he wanted to spare one or the other national team returnee on Saturday (3: 30 P.M., LIVE!), after all, the Lower Saxons will be struggling in the next few weeks. On Thursday, the Bundesliga player competes in the Europa League qualification in Tirana at FK Kukesi, on Sunday after that Bayer Leverkusen will again be guest at the Bundesliga opening in the Volkswagen Arena. Nevertheless, the Fürstenwalde hurdle must first be removed. And so that there is no evil surprise against the Landespokalsieger from Brandenburg, VfL-Zehner Admir Mehmedi warns himself and his teammates in advance. On paper, his team is of course the favourite, he admits, but does the Swiss national player push directly after: “Easy tasks in the cup? I also know this from the national team against smaller nations…” Not infrequently, the favourite struggles. “You can only lose there,” stresses Mehmedi, “you can only do something wrong.” And so the 29-year-old is convinced to meet a combative opponent. “It won’t be pleasant, they won’t roll us out of the red carpet.” Fürstenwalde is currently ranked 5th

in the Regionalliga Nordost and the team of former wolfsburger Matthias Maucksch lost 2-3 to Chemnitzer FC on the weekend. Keeper David Richter has not yet scored nine goals in the five previous seasons. Opposite them are eleven goals scored, with three goals each scored by midfielders Darryl Geurts and Joshua Putze.
