Mascarell: Jovic is a better Luis Suarez

Omar Mascarell from FC Schalke 04 has ennobled his former team mate Luka Jovic. In an interview with the Spanish daily AS, he even attributed the Eintracht Frankfurt striker the ability to be better than Luis Suarez of FC Barcelona.

Asked what player Mascarell would compare the young Serb to, he said, “I’d say he’s like Luis Suarez. But with significantly more quality.”

The rumours that Real Madrid should have Jovic in mind also asked Mascarell to compare him to Karim Benzema. “You can compare them, they hold the balls well. But I see Jovic stronger in the air, he’s very good with the head. He’s practically double-footed, he’s fast, strong. Every ball he gets in the air is a danger to his opponent.”

If the change comes about, Mascarell Jovic believes he can make the breakthrough at Real: “Yes, provided he achieves the right mental quality. Physically, he already has her. What he has achieved in harmony, he can do in Madrid with players of this quality around him.”

Mascarell and Jovic played together for Eintracht in the 2017/18 season under Niko Kovac. “He wasn’t the first striker in the ranking, but you could see his qualities back then. Every time he got minutes, he did it well and scored goals. He’s great in the air.”
