Mario Götze hesitates with extension at BVB, Arsenal shows interest

Midfielder Mario Götze hesitates to extend his contract with Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund. That’s what the picture tells us, and also the possible reason for it: The English top club FC Arsenal should show interest in a commitment of the 2014 world champion.

Götze is currently still bound to the BVB until 2020 and Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke explained a few weeks ago that it was his intention to extend Götze’s working paper. The picture added at that time, however, that the Borussi expected Götze to make a “certain concession” in the form of a lower salary claim in the negotiations.

Arsenal, who will be competing against Chelsea FC in Baku on Wednesday evening for the title in the Europa League and thus also for a ticket to the Champions League, could have Götze succeeding Aaron Ramsey in midfield. The Welsh international will move to Juventus Turin this summer without a replacement.

In 2016, Götze returned to Dortmund for 22 million euros from FC Bayern Munich. A metabolic disorder put him out of action for a long time before he regained his former strength during this season and belonged to the Lucien Favres family.
