Maier: Kahn “not so intoxicating” at first

Sepp Maier remembered Oliver Kahn’s beginnings at FC Bayern on his 50th birthday. Mats Hummels could switch to BVB, Franck Ribery also speaks of a return. And: Will Tobias Schweinsteiger also come back?

Here you can find news and rumours about FC Bayern Munich.

In an interview with tz, Bavarian legend Sepp Maier talked about Oliver Kahn’s beginnings at the FCB. When Kahn, who turns 50 on 15 June, came to Munich from Karlsruher SC in 1994, Sepp Maier was goalkeeper coach there. “Not so intoxicating when I’m honest,” was the first impression of the new keeper, says Maier: “He had undisputed talent, but we both knew that we still had a lot of work to do. That’s why he trained so eagerly to achieve what he set out to do.”

Over the years, the Titan has “become calmer, more sociable compared to the past,” said Maier, “although we got along well in the past, both in good and bad times. If he now becomes FC Bayern’s CEO, I’ll be a goalkeeper coach again.” Kahn had played for the Bavarians from 1994 to 2008 and then ended his career.

According to a report by Bild und SportBild, Borussia Dortmund is considering a recall by Mats Hummels. The negotiations are said to be quite advanced, allegedly Bavaria demands 15 to 20 million euros. Here is an analysis of the possible transfer: Who would be the winner at the end?

“I could imagine a role as a sports coordinator to support a trainer with whom I get along well,” Franck Ribery said in an interview with l’Equipe: “The film isn’t finished yet.”

Where he will play in the coming season is still open. “I’m still hungry, and I think I can still do a lot of work. I can still play in a big club. I have this experience, which often makes the difference,” explained the 36-year-old. “I want to play for another two years.” Here are some more statements from Ribery.

The brother of world champion Bastian Schweinsteiger had worked until the end at FC Juniors OÖ, the training club of the ASK in Linz. There he has now announced his farewell – he has received “inquiries from Germany”.

Could this be FC Bayern? There Hoeneß-Neffe Sebastian moves up from the U19 to the U23, because Jochen Seitz will start in the management of the junior performance centre. Tobias Schweinsteiger had already worked until the end of 2018 in the junior section of Bavaria.
