Lewandowski calls for reinforcement: “FCB two years without major transfers

Robert Lewandowski of FC Bayern Munich wished for even more new members for the team. On the FCB’s US tour, however, the centre forward, like coach Niko Kovac, is looking forward to the test match against FC Arsenal.

“I hope that the board and the people working on it will strengthen us as a team. Not only with young players, but also with players who are directly top in the world. This is clearly our wish, and I hope that this will happen in the next few days,” said Lewandowski in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday German time.

The Pole emphasised that “the others are also waiting for the new players” and that an investment should be possible not least after the two rather uneventful summers of FC Bayern 2017 and 2018: “The Bavarians have not made any major transfers in the last two years. Now it has to go on with transfers.”

At the moment, the competition is still too harmless to tickle real top performances out of the players: “If you want to play at top level and think about winning all the titles, then you also need reinforcements in the team. I hope something happens in the next few days.”

Lewandowski has not yet been able to confirm his own extra time with FC Bayern, but spoke of “good talks” so far. Kovac did not want to comment on possible transfers and referred to sports director Hasan Salihamidzic. He had not travelled to the USA and was recently observed by the picture on a flight to Paris.

Meanwhile FC Bayern is preparing for the first test match of the US trip against FC Arsenal (Thursday, 5am live on DAZN). “Jet lag is already over. I feel like I’m in Europe, I don’t see much difference. We are very much looking forward to the game tomorrow. A game in LA is always something special,” said Lewandowski.

Kovac gave a brief insight into his plans for the test: “We want to give players the opportunity to test against very good opponents, like tomorrow against Arsenal. The first half will be played by players who have been in training for some time, the second half by national players.”
