Bundesliga: Kruse justifies move to Fenerbahce

Max Kruse has defended his move from SV Werder Bremen to Fenerbahce. In an interview with the kicker he explained the reasons for his move to the Turkish Süper Lig and contradicted the accusation of mercenary.

“Economic things play a role in every human being. But if it had only been for that, then I would have been in the Middle Kingdom now,” said Kruse, who probably also had offers from the financially strong Chinese league. Kruse rather cited cultural reasons for his departure from Werder.

He wanted to broaden his “horizon” and therefore decided against an extension of his contract: “Leaving Bremen was not a decision against Werder, but a decision for myself”. For a long time it was considered certain that the 31-year-old would want to leave Bremen to play internationally again.

This was only partly true: “I don’t really care what many people think. I would have had the chance to choose a team that will play European next season. But for me, more must be right than just the present.” Kruse expects to qualify for Champions or Europa League with Fenerbahce.

Meanwhile, the offensive player wants to remain true to himself. “Of course, you can infect people with certain statements or actions. But I decided for myself to stay myself,” Kruse explained. Accordingly, the criticism after his transfer touches him only slightly: “I just don’t want to pretend. I think that’s my main characteristic.”
