Kramer: “Mental debates excite me”

Christoph Kramer has no understanding for discussions about attitude problems of football professionals. “These mentality debates excite me,” he said in an interview with the kicker.

“If we look for explanations for any results, we regularly end up with the keyword mentality. They interpret so much nonsense that I can only shake my head,” said the 28-year-old from Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach.

According to Kramer, there is no doubt about the attitude of professional footballers: “Every professional has the greed and the bite to want to win the game. Every week.” The fact that players only wanted to show 98 percent readiness for action in a few points “is not possible”.

A return to the national team, the native Solinger considers practically checked off. “I think that this train has left – even if it can always go very fast in football,” said Kramer almost three and a half years after his twelfth and so far last international match: “But should it be like this, I won’t complain for a second. I had the most beautiful time.”

His focus is therefore all the more on continuing his career as successfully as possible in Mönchengladbach, where his contract runs until 2021. Basically “I want to end my career with Borussia,” explained the midfielder.

Even phases like last season as a reservist wouldn’t change his attitude, Kramer made it clear: “I’m not a flag in the wind and I’m changing my mind just because I sat outside a few times. I’m totally grateful to the club for the career they’ve given me. I’m feeling really comfortable.”

Parallel to his professional career, Kramer can also imagine a new edition of his commitment as a TV expert, such as 2018 for ZDF at the World Cup finals in Russia. Such a sideline is “very well possible because it is an interesting story”.
