Miroslav Klose, world champion with the DFB team 2014 in Brazil, has sharply criticised the attitude of young footballers in Germany in an interview with the kicker.
“I have a lot of contact with ex-professionals who are now coaches or otherwise active in football. They confirm that today’s generation no longer has this attitude, which was normal for us, with a few exceptions. I miss this passion, this heart. She is part of the overall package alongside talent, physique and athletics,” said Klose.
“The training must be, of course. But some let the school slide and don’t realize that when they are often away as national players, they have to catch up. A lot of people go the easy way. This shows me that it won’t be enough,” Klose continued. The 41-year-old has been training Bayern Munich’s U17s since last year.
He misses “this unconditional will, the young players are often fed up too quickly,” complained the former goal scorer, but also sees a certain excessive demand: “They must get fun out of football again. Sometimes they seem so stressed, with school and much more, that I get the impression that they only come to training because they have to.”
