Hummels change because of Bavaria announcement?

Mats Hummels returns from FC Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund. A spectacular transfer that apparently started with the 30-year-old central defender. The reason for this is said to have been a conversation between Hummels and Bayern officials.

According to BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, Hummel’s willingness to change had signalled that the company had subsequently become active in the black-yellow sector.

According to Bavarian radio, there had been a meeting between the defender and the Bavarian officials two and a half weeks ago. Hummels had been informed that there would be no competition between the central defenders at the FCB in the coming season, but that the two positions had already been awarded to Niklas Süle and record purchase Lucas Hernandez.

The report literally says: “Hummels was signalled: No matter how well he plays in preparation, he probably has no chance of becoming a regular at the beginning of the season.”

Süle was already a regular at the double-winner last season, world champion Hernandez comes for 80 million Euro from Atletico Madrid. The two 23-year-olds are regarded in Munich as the central defender duo of the future. In Benjamin Pavard, another young defensive player will be coming from VfB Stuttgart for around 35 million euros.

While the perspective for Hummels in the Bayern defence became smaller and smaller, the BVB was anxious to find an experienced and stabilizing force to lead the talented, but still young and sometimes insecure central defenders Abdou Diallo (23), Dan-Axel Zagadou (20) and Manuel Akanjizu. These have now found the black-yellow in Hummels. And Hummels? He is now the leading figure at BVB, instead of the bench press at FC Bayern.
