Hoeneß: Kroos sale perhaps a mistake

FC Bayern Munich’s President Uli Hoeneß, five years apart, reveals that he regrets the sale of Rio World Champion Toni Kroos to Real Madrid.

“An association sometimes has to make tough decisions – and that was a tough one, perhaps the wrong one,” says Hoeneß in the documentary film “Kroos”, which premieres in cinemas on 30 June.

At the time, the Bavarians had sold Kroos for 25 million euros, which from today’s point of view was a favourable price, after an early extension of his contract, which ran until 2015, had failed.

“I was told quite often how great I am and how right I do everything – but I didn’t play,” says Kroos (29) in the film about his time with the Bavarians.

In the film by the award-winning director Manfred Oldenburg, the journey Kroos has made from his birthplace Greifswald to the Spanish record champion is traced. Numerous current and former companions, including Kroos’ family, have their say.

Matthias Sammer, also to be seen in a trailer published on Tuesday, calls Kroos “one of the greatest conductors German football has ever had”.
