Hoeneß damps hopes of Leroy Sane transfer

Published on

According to Uli Hoeneß, FC Bayern Munich has a hard time competing for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane. Although contact has been established for years, the FCB President sees the financing of the transfer as a particular challenge.

“I don’t have exact figures yet, but I think that the financial framework will be very difficult,” said Hoeneß of SportBild. After all, it’s not just the young national player’s replacement that has to be paid: “The whole package is difficult.”

Hoeneß himself had recently imposed a transfer limit of about 80 million euros on FC Bayern. That would probably blow Sane up. According to SportBild, an annual salary of more than ten million euros would also have to be expected.

The report refers to figures brought into play by football leaks: Sane are said to have been guaranteed around 28 million euros for three years in 2016. The current offer of an extension also means a salary increase.

So while the finances speak against FC Bayern, the sporting factor is quite attractive. Already since 2016 the people of Munich, at that time still in person of Michael Reschke, should strive for Sane. While minutes were hard to get back then, the situation is now different.

The open succession of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben is said to be the trump card in the negotiations. FC Bayern guarantees the times they have to play, as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also hinted: “He will be an interesting successor here. That would always appeal to me as a player.”

Meanwhile, the competition should be small. Apart from FC Bayern, no other club outside England is interested. ManCity Sane does not want to sell within the league. A decision is apparently to be made after the international games.
