Gräfe pleads for challenges

Published on

Munich – Referee Manuel Gräfe talks about the refereeing system. He criticizes the lack of the performance principle, but wants changes in the video evidence.

He is one of the best German referees. And he is a friend of clear words.

Two years ago Manuel Gräfe caused a stir in an interview with the Tagesspiegel. Among others, he criticized the referee functionaries Hellmut Krug and Herbert Fandel. One accusation: In refereeing, performance is not enough.

He has now renewed this accusation. “I understand that everyone should be encouraged – but this also includes encouraging top referees,” explained Gräfe. Good refereeing performance would help German football. “So you should send out your best people,” said Gräfe.
