Serge Gnabry is already the Player of the Year at the German Football Record Champion for President Uli Hoeneß of Bayern Munich
“We thought, well, let’s get him back now and then, and then we’ll see if he plays every now and then,” the Bavarian president told the kicker: “Now he’s a regular player, it’s a lot of fun and the biggest surprise this season, and in a positive sense.
Last summer Gnabry changed from TSG Hoffenheim to the Isar after one year on loan. The international has scored twelve goals and prepared nine in 36 competitive matches to date (contract to 2023).
In the Bundesliga, he could score another rare goal of the season, his tenth: The 23-year-old would only be the third professional to have scored in double figures for three different clubs in three consecutive years. So far only Erwin Kostedde (1974-77) and Jürgen Wegmann (1985-88) have succeeded in doing this. Gnabry scored ten times for Hoffenheim last season and eleven times for Werder Bremen the year before.
“I don’t see any limit with him”, said Horst Hrubesch, the DFB junior coach of many years, to the kicker: “If he stays healthy, Bavaria will have a lot of fun with him, 15 to 20 goals per season are possible”. Under Hrubesch, Gnabry won Olympic silver in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
