Gladbach hires new goalkeeper

Borussia Mönchengladbach has signed goalkeeper Max Grün of the second league team SV Darmstadt 98. In return, the Bundesliga team’s U21 national goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas loaned out U21 goals to first league promoted Union Berlin. At the same time, the contract with 21-year-old Nicolas was extended until 2023.

“It was our and Moritz’s common wish that he would have a greater chance of playing practice with another club and we are convinced that this will be the case with Union,” said Sport Director Max Eberl: “He is still part of our future plans for the goalkeeper position, so we have secured the option of bringing him back to us early after one year.

Yann Sommer has been the number one goalkeeper in Gladbach for years. In addition, the contract with substitute goalkeeper Tobias Sippel (31) was only extended last season until 2021.

Grün receives a contract in Gladbach until 2021. The 32-year-old has played nine Bundesliga and 81 second league games so far. The keeper had joined the lilies last September, but did not play a compulsory game for SV 98.
