With the 1st FC Nürnberg Georg Margreitter is still in the middle of the relegation fight, even if the chances seem to disappear. But the Austrian has not yet given up hope and even if he retires, he can imagine staying with the “Club”.
“In public perception, we’re already written off anyway. That means for us that we can only win, that’s how we should approach it”, Margreitter told the kicker. With five points behind the bank that saved them – namely the relegation place that VfB Stuttgart currently holds – and only two remaining games, the chances for the Nuremberg team are very bad.
But hope is dying last, as the centre-back underlines: “Football has already seen the most curious scenarios, and the 30-year-old can hope to be back on the pitch after Ewerton’s injury, having lost his regular spot as captain at the beginning of February.
“I’ve always been calm because I knew sooner or later I’d come back in anyway,” said the Vorarlberg native, and it seemed to have paid off. Georg Margreitter is equally calm about his future with 1 FC Nürnberg.
Because after four years in the club this has grown to him obviously to the heart and thus he would like to fulfill his contract running until 2021, even if it should be in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 30-year-old has not yet provided any information on how to proceed after this.
But who knows what is still possible against Borussia Mönchengladbach and SC Freiburg, even if it would need a little football miracle for it.
