Fortuna apparently on the verge of becoming ex-BVB professional

In search of newcomers for the next season, Fortuna Düsseldorf is probably also thinking about Neven Subotic from AS Saint-Etienne. According to the Rheinische Post, the 30-year-old will play a role in the plans of the Bundesliga team.

“Neven is an internationally experienced player, but he is only one of many names we have been associated with,” said sports director Lutz Pfannenstiel at the editorial’s request.

The long-time Borussia Dortmund defender, who will only be under contract until the end of June in Saint-Etienne, apparently wants to leave the French club free of charge.

In an interview with the regional newspaper, coach Friedhelm Funkel had previously announced that the club was looking for another experienced central defender on the transfer market.

However, Pfannenstiel added that investments in this position were also linked to contingencies: “We will only move into this position when we receive a decision from Kaan Ayhan. This should be the case relatively promptly.”

In the past season, Subotic was for a long time a regular at AS Saint-Etienne. For the French club, which also qualified for the Europa League, the 30-year-old played 26 of 38 possible matches.

Since the middle of last month, however, the defender was no longer in action and should therefore now strive for a goodbye.
