The return of midfielder Sebastian Rode to Eintracht Frankfurt is perfect. The 28-year-old signed a contract with the state of Hesse until 2024, with four million euros most recently under discussion as a replacement. Rode had already been lent to Frankfurt by Borussia Dortmund in the second half of last season.

“We’ve all seen what value Sebastian has in our game. After his commitment last winter, our game has gained in important components,” said Eintracht Sports Director Fredi Bobic: “Moreover, he is a boy of the region and we have always said that we try to bind such players to the club. Rode was born in Seeheim-Jugenheim, about 40 kilometers south of Frankfurt.

Rode had played a total of 20 matches for Eintracht in the second half of the season and scored the decisive goal to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League in a 2-0 win over Benfica Lisbon.

Currently he is in rehabilitation after a cartilage damage in his right knee, according to Eintracht he is making “good progress”.

“I have experienced in the last half year how strongly harmony has developed. I’m happy to continue to be a part of it,” said Rode, who travelled to the team’s training camp in Windischgarsten on Saturday.

Since July 2016, he had only played 22 compulsory games for BVB due to numerous injuries.
