Lucien Favre, coach of Borussia Dortmund, has praised Raphael Guerreiro after his victory in the Supercup against Bayern Munich and made it clear that the left-winger will continue to play for the BVB in the coming season.
“Rapha is a very, very good player, very clever. We hope he stays. He will stay,” Favre said at the press conference after the first compulsory match of the new season. The Portuguese was in the starting line-up against the FCB and was replaced by Achraf Hakimi after 75 minutes.
“He played very well, he was a little tired at the end, that’s quite normal. He defended a lot, he walked a lot. The second goal came from him, this counter was very important,” Favre remembered the decisive goal before which Guerreiro conquered the ball and put goalscorer Jadon Sancho in the limelight.
The 25-year-old, who switched from FC Lorient to Borussia in the summer of 2016 for twelve million euros, has recently been associated with a transfer to FC Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain. Among other things, Guerreiro expressed dissatisfaction with his changing role and the fluctuating deployment times under Favre.
Against FC Bayern, Guerreiro played in the left midfield, newcomers Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard were missing. As a left defender, another new commitment seems to have been set with Nico Schulz. Guerreiro has run for the BVB since changing to 83 compulsory games and scored 32 scorer points (15 goals, 17 assists).
