DFL-Supercup: Everything about the date, venue and live broadcast

Published on

Since 2010 the DFL Supercup is traditionally held at the beginning of the season. This year FC Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund in the Supercup. At SOCCERSCORE you can find out the exact date as well as the location of the Supercup duel. We will also provide you with all information about the live coverage of this DFL event.

Usually the champion always plays against the cup winner for the Supercup trophy. If a club wins the championship and the DFB Cup, it will compete against the runner-up.

The last Supercup duel between a champion and runners-up came in 2016, when the double winner FC Bayern competed against the runners-up from Dortmund. At this year’s Supercup the constellation is the same.

Both the match date and the exact kick-off time were announced last Friday by the DFL.

The Supercup 2019 will take place on Saturday, August 3rd and will be kicked off in the evening. Like last year, the game will be kicked off at 8.30 pm.

Last year FC Bayern was the champion against the DFB Cup winner from Frankfurt. The venue was the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, where the Bavarians won 5:0.

Also in this year FC Bayern will not receive the honour of the Supercup host. Instead, the Supercup will take place in Dortmund. The venue is the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, which offers space for a total of 81,365 spectators.

Thus the Supercup, for the first time since 2017, will again be held in Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park. In 2016 and 2017 two successive Supercup duels took place in Dortmund.

The Supercup match between Bavaria and Dortmund will of course be on TV again. ZDF, the public broadcaster, is responsible for the live transmission on free TV, while the live encounter will be shown on pay TV on Eurosport 2 HD Xtra.

ZDF logically broadcasts the game via ZDF livestream as well, so that the game can also be called up on the move. In addition, Eurosport also offers its own livestream via Eurosport Player.

But the DFL Supercup will not be shown exclusively on German television. The FC Bayern – Borussia Dortmund match will be broadcast in more than 200 FIFA member countries.

The last two Supercup duels were in favour of the Bavarian record champion from Munich. Two years ago, the Munich team triumphed after the penalty shootout, while the FCB had won the Supercup a year earlier after 90 minutes.
