Bundesliga: Commercialisation? U21-Star expresses itself

Timo Baumgartl supports the preservation of the fan culture. In his opinion, however, when it comes to commercialisation, the focus should be on the exchange between clubs and fans.

“We gamblers should stay out of this. This is an issue that the clubs should be able to identify with their fans,” Baumgartl told SOCCERSCORE and Goal. The central defender of VfB Stuttgart is in a bit of a dilemma as a player.

“We live in a world in which commercialisation and internationalisation certainly play a major role. Money simply has an influence on the sport that has evolved as a result,” he explained.

Nevertheless, Baumgartl finds the preservation of the fan culture important. For this reason, he supports the “FC PlayFair! fan club,” which promotes integrity in football and the interests of fans. Among other things, the club published a communication app for fans: UFFL.

“I think it’s a cool thing. It is important that the fans also communicate with each other. Of course, if I can help, I’m happy to do it,” said Baumgartl.

The 23-year-old U21 national player appreciates the support of fans – both in the club and in the DFB team: “I’m lucky to have a large fan base with VfB Stuttgart. The away games are actually home games. It’s also incredible how many fans have come here to Italy to support us.”
