Bundesliga: Change rumours about Götze: Watzke speaks plain language

Managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund firmly believes that Mario Götze will remain.

“I don’t know why he should leave,” said Watzke during the half-time break of the Champions League final on Saturday in Madrid at DAZN.

Götze (26), hero of Rio 2014, was most recently associated with the English Europa League finalist FC Arsenal.

Watzke explained that the offensive player had “not approached the club with a desire to change”.

The 63-time national player Götze’s contract with the German vice-champion runs until 2020. Borussia had recently repeatedly signalled its interest in an early extension of the contract.
